Thanks to the generosity of Paolo Cardazzo’s heirs, the Fondazione Giorgio Cini Institute of Art History has received a remarkable rich archive documenting the activities of gallery-owner and collector Carlo Cardazzo and his son Paolo. The archive spans the history of the Galleria del Cavallino, the renowned Venetian art gallery that played such a vital role in 20th-century cultural developments and in promoting the most advanced manifestations of modern art in the Veneto and Italy.
The documentation includes photographs, lists, press cuttings, the gallery’s rare catalogues and a rich correspondence with leading figures on the 20th-century Italian art scene, such as Cesare Zavattini, Giorgio Morandi and Filippo De Pisis. In addition to the archive, the Cardazzo heirs will also donate the books published by Edizioni del Cavallino and a valuable collection of graphic art works (Campigli, Capogrossi, Saetti, Guidi, etc.).
